Like the Oscar. Except more Girlie.

Announcing the First Annual Girlie

Girls Who Print, an international virtual sorority for women in the printing industry, is pleased to announce the first annual Girlie award, which will be presented to an outstanding member of the community during the annual National “Girls Who Print” Day luncheon on Tuesday, September 30.

Now in its third year, National GWP Day is hosted in Print Media Centr’s Printerverse at Graph Expo. Print Media Centr principal Deborah Corn and GWP founder Mary Beth Smith began discussing a way to use the worldwide platform to raise awareness of the contribution of women in print.  Presenting an award seemed logical, so in keeping with the lighthearted nature of GWP,  the concept of the Girlie was born.

While we may not take ourselves too seriously, we DO take our members seriously. Among the criteria used in selecting the first recipient were commitment to communications, strong leadership, a history of mentoring, an eye to the future, and a keen interest in supporting women within the industry.

Who will this year’s Girlie winner be?

We’re not telling! You will find out at the same time the winner does on Tuesday, September 30. Whether you’re live in Chicago with us, or participating through live streaming video, don’t miss it!

  1. I am new to GWP, but was so excited when I saw your forum!! It seems to me, in the past, only men were recognized in the print industry. I am so happy that someone finally brought to light the fact that women have something to contribute to the industry as well. And although I can't make the luncheon in Chicago this year, I am definitely going to try and make the live stream. Thanks so much for all that you have done for women around the world who've joined, what was in the past, a mainly "men's world"!! This is amazing and I can't wait to see what else you have in store for us. :-)

  3. While I, of course, enjoy every aspect of GraphExpo, National “Girls Who Print” Day is the event I am most looking forward to. I also look forward to finding out - and celebrating - the first Girlie recipient.

  5. MB, Thank you for all of your time and effort to keep GWP growing strong. I have not had the pleasure of attending Graph Expo but will be adding it to my plan for 2015. Now that I am coming up on 25 years in the business, through all the teaching, coaching, projects, changes...I can still say I have never been bored and appreciate all of the talent, creative energy and durability of the woman in this industry. Congrats on another successful year!
